2027 Graduate Programme

Start your horticulture career with SPL, one of New Zealand’s leading large scale glasshouse growers and a subsidiary of MG Group.

Based in Warkworth, the 12 month SPL Graduate Programme provides practical experience across glasshouse growing, crop health, agronomy, technical operations, crop planning, packhouse operations and complex management.

The programme is designed for recent graduates who are interested in the future of food production and want to build a career in horticulture. Graduates will learn alongside experienced growers and technical specialists, with a pathway towards a Trainee Grower or Assistant Grower position within SPL.

The programme is expected to commence in December 2026 or January 2027.

During the peak production season (around 9 months
of the year), SPL has up to 200 staff who work in the glasshouse to carry out harvesting and crop maintenance duties along with a dedicated packhouse team. The business also has a range of other roles, such as finance, administration, maintenance, and management.

RSE & PAC employees

While we're always keen to provide New Zealanders with work opportunities, an important part of the SPL workforce is the people recruited from Tuvalu and Kiribati.

For our Pacific Island Recognised Seasonal Employees (RSE), SPL offers pastural care assisting with banking, medical needs, accommodation and support while in New Zealand.

Over the years, we have been able to offer permanent job opportunities to some of those selected in the Pacific Access Category (PAC) ballot. We now have an established workforce from the Tuvalu and Kiribati Island groups, and some of these staff have been at SPL for many years, with some now owning their own homes in the Rodney region.

They join the business through the Recognised Seasonal Employer (RSE) Scheme and Pacific Access Category (PAC).
